Aero is something that relates to "air". Nautics
means “the art of navigation".
Aeronautics deals with the art of navigation in the air. We
can easily relate it to the man's dream to fly, to control his journey through
the air. The dream to fly has always been there for a human being. What made it
possible through the means of modern science and pure innovative thought was
first realized by the Wright brothers, in the recorded history of mankind.
In 1903, Wright brothers demonstrated that humans could
indeed fly and that was no dream, it became a reality. In 2013, a century later, when we talk of
Aeronautical Engineering we should remember that we stand on shoulders of
giants who have helped humans to such advancement as flight through their
curiosity, inventions and brilliant brain works.
Aeronautical Engineering has developed into a fully grown
branch of engineering. It basically makes use the principles of classical
mechanics, mechanical and structural engineering. With incessant necessities
for improvements in safety aspects and enhancement in the user experience, the
amount of electronics and instrumentation that apply to aeronautical
engineering is tremendous. For example
complicated Electrical harnesses and wiring is completely avoided by providing signaling
cables in the form of CAN bus (Controller Area Network) and other similar
information transfer protocol. Control, Navigation and safety of the flight are
completely secured by sophisticated electronics and information technology.
As a result a student of Aeronautical Engineering has a
complete picture of his dream and can easily focus on the various contexts of
navigation and usages.
